If you want to escape to a small island paradise, then the Gili Islands might be a good place to start. The Gili Islands is just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. A short boat trip from Bali and you’re in an island paradise. The Gili Islands is made up of three small islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. The islands have become more and more popular over the years however they are still as good as ever.

I have done several trips to Gili Trawangan with my partner and we absolutely love it. There are no cars or motorbikes on any of the islands, so the main mode of transport is walking or riding a bike. The snorkelling around the island is absolutely stunning! The water is crystal clear and full of marine life anywhere you decide to jump in. For something fun we usually go on a snorkelling boat trip around the islands, even though you have access to the best reef right out the front of Gili Trawangan it’s fun to cruise around the island on one of the local boats and do some site seeing.

In terms of accommodation there are plenty of places ranging from cheap ($20 per night) to extremely expensive ($200 per night). Our style is to just rock up to the island and find our accommodation when we get there. We only do this because we know a few little places to stay, so getting a room is never a problem. If it’s your first time to the island and you haven’t pre booked accommodation don’t sweat it, you will be approached by several people when you get off the boat offering many different accommodation options.

Hire a push bike so you can ride around and find a secluded part of the island with white sand and turquoise water all to yourself. The sun sets on the western side of the island so we like to grab a few Bintangs in the afternoon hop on the bikes and ride to the sunset spot. You can hire paddle boards, snorkelling gear and push bikes from pretty much everywhere on the island. Life is pretty easy going on Gili Trawangan and you tend to just eat, sleep, snorkel and repeat, which sounds pretty damn perfect to me. The Gili Islands are safe for all ages to enjoy, so what are you waiting for? Click Here to find yourself the perfect hotel on the Gili Islands.
