Thinking of buying a surfboard? One of the main considerations is whether you are going to buy a new board or a second-hand board and of course how much money you’re willing to spend on your new whip. I personally prefer to buy new surfboards however if I find a second hand surfboard that I really like at a good price I won’t hesitate to buy it. Gumtree has some bargains from time to time. If you’re 100% on a certain surfboard, then buying over the internet can be very convenient. Nothing beats holding and feeling a surfboard with your own hands though.
Custom surfboards are always a treat but I gave up on customs when I stopped getting them for free. These days, surfboards are getting so good that I don’t mind buying them straight off the rack. The quality is high and the range of surfboards you can purchase straight off the rack is huge. High performance, a fish or a log no matter what you’re looking for you can find it in a surf shop now days.
I can’t bring myself to spend over $500 hundred on a new surfboard so I won’t be riding a Channel Islands or a DHD anytime soon, unless its second hand. Recently I started riding Annesley Surfboards, which I have been buying off the rack from a surf shop called Sideways Surf (Gold Coast, Australia). I am so impressed with Annesley Surfboards that they are now my go to surfboard. My favourite models are the S2 (5’9 x 18 ½ x 2 3/16) and the Brunette (5’8 x 18 ½ x 2 3/16). Not only do the boards go really well, they are high quality and you can pick them up from Sideways Surf for around $400 or less any day of the week. That’s half the price of most known surfboard manufacturers, so basically it’s a two for one deal in my eyes. Sideways Surf also stock a large range of surfboards from Onfire, Matt Hurworth, Diverse and Webber. If you’re are in the market for a surfboard then check out Sideways Surf for a quality board at a decent price.
